The new release from ALAN JOHNSON, under the name of the dubstep duo of TOM NEILAN and GARETH KIRBY, is out now! ALAN JOHNSON's last album was quite a hit, and this latest EP is not only a decline, but an evolution in sound that is innovative in many ways. The first track, the eponymously titled "Ten Year Tonnage," opens the EP with a whiplash snare, DMZ flute, and thick subs, before opening up the midrange and snarling the low end, constantly shifting and teasing the roots drop with an addictive quality. The "SHAPESHIFTER" is the first track on the album. SHAPESHIFTER celebrates the era when dubstep danced with Berlin techno, with the Dutch dubstep artist's 2562-esque staggered chords and pinch of power.MUAY SIZE" is a more deformed club pugilism reminiscent of LOEFAH's "SWAMP 81," while "PEOPLE OF THE WORLD" is a two-footed take on Caribbean and West African influences with a gloopy charm. The dubstep duo returns to SNEAKER SOCIAL CLUB to complete what they started on their last album, THE STILLNESS EP, with this meeting of the minds. A must listen.
