Description:
New York-based sex-positive foursome Camgirl8 releases debut album on <4AD>! Camgirl8, a sex-positive foursome from New York City, releases their debut album on 4AD! From the distorted gothic industrial of John Carpenter's retro horror soundtracks, to the suspenseful and sometimes romantic synth waves reminiscent of Chris & Kozy and Suicide, to the gritty experimentalism of post-punk, the album oscillates between dark and light, and is an intergalactic journey of interconnectedness. The album oscillates between darkness and lightness, traveling through a galaxy of mutuality. The band's musical references during composition include Miss Kitten, Delta 5, Lizzie Mercier Declou, Throbbing Gristle, ESG, D≒SIRE, Deli Girls, Nine Inch Nails, Susie and the Banshees, Peaches, and Bjork. Colliding with its eclectic musical landscape, it evokes an interplay between cyber-feminist social critique and the lived experience of the foursome, and in terms of its themes, it sits firmly between the surreal and the illusory.Described as utopian and chaotic, "Greta Samberg's fever dream," the debut album, the 8th cumming, is rooted in a philosophy close to the band's heart: cyber-feminism, which addresses the relationship between man and machine, nature and technology. In this context, the album aims to examine the relationship between the online and physical worlds from an apocalyptic perspective, and the band's slime-covered futuristic costumes in a pale, murky landscape (symbolizing the inevitable "post-reality" consisting of a deteriorating natural ecosystem and the dissolution of consciousness at the helm of an artificial intelligence The outspoken activism, including protests against SXSW 2024, the pejorative lyrics, the adventurous stage performances in costumes created by the band, and the Plan C (abortion pill) all help to flex their political muscles. The band has flexed its political muscles, but is now looking inward, exploring its own creative boundaries, unafraid to introduce complex themes to listeners.
