He then studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied with Franco Gulli, Ruggiero Ricci, Ivry Gitlis, Hermann Kleppers, and members of the Alban Berg Quartet. He won the 1987 Mendelssohn International Competition and the 1995 Sarasate International Competition. He has also won prizes at the Francescatti International Competition and the Tokyo International Music Competition (1995).His repertoire is wide-ranging and includes major concertos and sonatas, as well as numerous premieres by contemporary composers (Franco Donatoni, Loris Ceknavolian, etc.). He has given concerts all over the world and has also participated in film music recordings. In recent years, he has been exploring his musical roots as an Armenian, while developing an interest in the musical cultures of regions such as the Middle East, Central Europe, and Latin, and has received positive reviews for his rhythmic and emotional performances.
