Description:

In the mid-1990s, Gianluca Cascioli, who was discovered by the great master Pollini, attracted attention with his recordings for DG and DECCA. Cascioli plays Viennese instruments of the time】 Gianluca Cascioli, whose talent was discovered by the great master Pollini in the mid-1990s, has attracted attention with his recordings for DG, DECCA, and other labels. While composing classical piano music as a contemporary composer, her wide-ranging interest as a performer also extends to ancient instruments, and her performances in Japan and recent recordings of Mozart sonatas with violinist Sayaka Shoji on a fortepiano model similar to the one the composer genius played in her later years have attracted much attention. The recording was made by the Viennese Walter Werkstätte, which was used in the performance. The fortepiano used in these performances was reproduced by Paul McNulty, a master craftsman who is highly trusted by players such as Alexei Lyubimov and Ronald Brautigam, both of whom are skilled players of ancient musical instruments. This time, using the same instruments, we will explore the masterpieces of Beethoven's early years, when he was active in Vienna shortly after Mozart. All of the pieces in this collection were written before the composer became acquainted with the instruments made by Erard in Paris in 1803.The musicality, backed up not only by the appropriate choice of instruments but also by the rich experience of playing on modern instruments, attracts the ear with its rich tone expression without blurring in approaching the true nature of the work by taking advantage of the characteristics of the ancient instruments' resonance. The interview with Cascioli in the liner notes (in Italian, English, and French) is full of insightful insights that convey the sincerity of his interpretative approach. Naxos Japan
