Syriaks, born in 1972, began his international career in 1997 with success at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music competition. Forsberg, born in 1952, has served as church organist and cantor before becoming a recognized pianist accompanying recitalists, performing on stage and on recordings with vocalists such as Von Otter. The focus here is on the undiscovered and talented composers of Sweden. Two of the four featured composers, Munchtel (1852-1919) and Peyron (1845-1922), were women who produced outstanding works even in an era when it was difficult for women to have careers. The Sonata a la Regenta by Frickeleff (1882-1919) is a popular work that has been performed frequently, but the other works on this album are world premiere recordings.
