Gerhardt has been deeply involved with these two particularly famous works from the cello concerto repertoire for 35 years. Here, accompanied by the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne under the baton of Andrew Manze, Gerhardt presents an interpretation that challenges conventional wisdom. Having grown up listening to the legendary recordings by Mstislav Rostropovich and Jacqueline du Pré, he speaks of his respect for their intensity and individuality, while also noting that he “gradually came to feel the need to return to the source—that is, the score itself.” Dvořák and Elgar left behind remarkably detailed scores, and trusting the composers’ own instructions became the foundation of Gerhardt’s approach. Quoting Gustav Mahler’s words, “Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the keeping of the flame alive,” he explains that for him, this “flame” is “not about recreating iconic recordings, but about rediscovering the immediacy, clarity, and unadulterated emotional expression of the music exactly as written in the score.”\n\n“When music follows its natural rhythm, it gains a sense of urgency, direction, and above all, passion. In this recording, I have consistently sought to follow this intuition. The resulting performance time may come as a surprise, but this is not a matter of seeking novelty; rather, it is the result of trusting what is written and allowing the music to breathe and move.” (Alban Gerhardt).\n“Alban Gerhardt is a charismatic soloist at all times”—Gramophone\n“Almost perfect”—The Guardian\n“A cello performance of exquisite beauty and bold imagination”—BBC Music Magazine\nUniversal Music\/IMS\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Hyperion","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52699434778913,"sku":"34571284866","price":917.0,"currency_code":"TWD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/34571284866.jpg?v=1779022619","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-tw\/products\/34571284866","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
