After graduation, he taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and is one of the most respected composers in contemporary America. He has produced many works in a variety of styles, from minimalist music to neo-romanticism to jazz influences mediated by Stravinsky and others. His representative works include the orchestral pieces "Harmonielere" and "Shaker Loops," and the operas "Nixon in China," "Doctor Atomic," and "The Death of Klinghoffer. He received the Pulitzer Prize for "Reincarnation of the Soul," a memorial to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. As a conductor, he has made guest appearances with prestigious orchestras around the world, and in addition to his own works, has attracted attention for conducting works by Leonard Rosenman, Toru Takemitsu, and others, as well as film music. This box is being released to commemorate his 75th birthday by the Nonesuch label, which has presented John Adams' music on CD worldwide.All of those recordings and some others from Warner Classics, DG, San Francisco Symphony, and Berlin Philharmonic are included.
