Volume 82 of Hyperion's popular series \"Romantic Piano Concertos\" features the piano concertos of the late 19th century Armenian composer\/pianist Stefan Ermas! The Romantic Piano Concerto Series (RPCS) is Hyperion's popular series of discoveries and revivals of unknown piano concertos of the Romantic era. Volume 82 is a piano concerto by Stefan Ermas, an Armenian composer\/pianist active from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Stefan Ermas (1862-1937) was born into a wealthy family in Smyrna (now Izmir), Ottoman Empire, and grew up as a child prodigy, playing all of Liszt's works at the age of 13. He made his debut in Vienna in 1885, and later became a concert pianist, traveling in France, England, Germany, Austria, Italy, and elsewhere.During his travels, he became friends with Anton Rubinshtein and Jules Massenet, and after 1912 he settled permanently in Geneva, Switzerland, where he performed, composed, and taught. His works are also being re-evaluated. This album features two of the three piano concertos written by Ermass, No. 1 (1882) and No. 2 (1887), both written in the 1880s. Enjoy these brave and romantic piano concertos by Elmas, who maintained his Romantic style in the new century and produced elegant and fine salon music.
