Female singer/composer Mimi Roman is known as a pioneer of country and rockabilly. The songs she wrote were blasted into demo versions that she herself sang, which were then sung by various singers, but sometimes the demos themselves were of a quality that allowed them to be released as is. In such cases, she released the record under the name Kitty Ford. Her pop alter ego was Kitty Ford, who worked out of an Associated Recording Studio on Seventh Avenue in New York City, a two-minute walk from the Brill Building, the center of the American music industry that dominated the pop charts in the early 1960s. Mimi Roman is famous as a country singer, nicknamed the "Cowgirl of Brooklyn," but the demos/acetates she left under the name Kitty Ford offer a variety of styles, including rock and roll and pop songs.â
