He is one of the most important conductors of the Vienna Philharmonic and is a regular guest at subscription concerts, music festivals, and overseas tours. Although he has retired from the Concertgebouw Orchestra, he is still very popular as the principal conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, a German orchestra. The program will include such standard works as \"The Blue Danube\" and \"The Racoczi March,\" as well as works that will appear for the first time in the history of the New Year's Concert. The vivid video and audio will give the audience the luxury of enjoying a live musical feast in the golden halls of the Vienna Musikverein, which are beautifully decorated with many flowers. Mariss Jansons was born in Riga, Latvia in 1943.His father was the master conductor Arvid Jansons. He studied violin, piano, and conducting at the Leningrad Conservatory, with Swarovski in Vienna and Karajan in Salzburg, and in 1971 received the Karajan Foundation Conducting Award and became assistant conductor of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. He has served as principal conductor and music director of the Oslo Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Concertgebouw Orchestra. He is currently Principal Conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
