This is an excellent recording that captures the purity of the chorus in the best sound quality. Mastered only in the analog domain and converted directly to DSD! The 30th SACD hybridization of the latest reissue project of ETERNA's original analog tapes in Japan, two Schütz masterpieces loved by many fans since the LP era are back as one SACD disc! This reissue project was originally planned for 2022, the 250th anniversary of Schütz's death, but due to the search for the master tapes and production delays, it took over a year to finally realize the project. The sound quality has been preserved in excellent condition, and the recording is worthy of SACD, which is also outstandingly effective in vocal music. 1966 recording of \"Seven Words on the Cross\" is a co-production between Alhieff of West Germany and Eterna of East Germany. It was first released in Japan in 1968 as an LP directly imported by Arhive (Ar 198 408), and was highly praised by Tatsuo Minagawa in Record Geijutsu magazine and by Kuniyoshi Uno in Ongaku no Tomo magazine, which quickly made the appeal of this hidden masterpiece known to Japanese lovers. The oratorio was written in 1645 by Schütz, who was in the midst of the agony of the 30 Years War, and who sympathized with the suffering of Jesus on the cross by comparing it to his own. The conductor is Rudolf Mauersberger (1889-1971), who served as the musical director (Kreuzkantor) of the Dresden Choir of the Holy Cross from 1930 until his death, bringing the choir to international fame. With a history of nearly 700 years, the Dresden Choir of the Holy Cross is associated with Schütz, who was active in Dresden in the 17th century. The performance of the work, which uses a boys' chorus for the women's part, conveys the poignant prayer and deep emotion of the work. The \"7 Kleine Geistliche Konzerte\" was recorded at about the same time, and is a collection of small pieces composed for a small group to perform for their countrymen who were exhausted by the 30-year war.The seven songs on the B-side of \"Seven Words on the Cross\" on the Arkhiv disc released in Japan above are different from the seven songs on the ETERNA disc (8 25 918), but the reason for this is unknown. Perhaps they were separated for the home country from the others based on multiple tracks. \"Funeral with Music\" (Musikalische Exequivien), recorded in 1968, was released in the West on the Philips label in the Netherlands, and in Japan in 1976 on LP by Philips (Ph PC 1827), and was recommended by Tatsuo Minagawa in Record Geijutsu magazine. The work is a requiem in German composed by Schütz in 1636 for the lord of his birthplace. The Dresden Choir of the Holy Cross beautifully depicts this masterpiece filled with sorrow for the departed with their pure voices and sincere singing. The excellent recording by the master technician Streuben, who captured the beautiful sound of the Luke Church, is also worthy of special mention.
