Born in 1904 in Halkis, Evia, Skalkottas moved with his family to Athens when he was 2 years old and started learning the violin at the age of 5. In 1921, he went to Berlin to study violin, but gave up his future as a violinist to concentrate on composition. In 1949, at the age of 45, he died in Athens. The album entitled \"From Berlin to Athens\" contains piano works composed in Berlin and Athens. The album includes the Sonatina and 15 small variations, which are representative works from his Berlin period, and the masterpiece suite from his later years in Athens, which is indispensable to the story of Skalkottas.
