However, all of the composer’s autograph scores have since been lost, and only transcriptions of about half of the music remain, scattered across various locations. Based on thorough research comparing manuscripts preserved in Berlin, Munich, and Berkeley Castle in England, as well as musical material reused in other operas, Sardelli has reconstructed the work as closely as possible to its state at the time of the 1716 premiere. In doing so, he refrained entirely from filling in the missing sections with new compositions, instead reconstructing the work using only the music written by Vivaldi himself.
