Opening the series is John Philip Sousa's \"Liberty Bell\". Inspired by the Liberty Bell housed in the former Pennsylvania State Capitol Building in Philadelphia, this march is one of Sousa's most famous compositions. It is a fitting song for the opening of the concert. Kevin Norbury's \"Odyssey\" was the theme piece for the European Brass Band Championships 1999, and was also the theme piece for the champion section of the Besson British National Brass Band Contest 2018. The piece has everything from playing technique to expressiveness, and the speedy performance by the Black Dyke Band is a must-hear. Also included to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its release is \"Sing My Bob,\" an instrumental piece composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The song was included on the A-side of a vinyl single in 1968 and released by Apple Records, the Beatles' label.Other virtuosos of Black Dyke, including Richard Marshall on cornet, Zoe Hancock on flugelhorn, and Daniel Thomas on euphonium, also give outstanding performances.
