At the age of 9, he entered the prestigious Paris Conservatory, where he showed extraordinary talent as a pianist and composer.In 1857, at the age of only 19, he was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome and had the opportunity to study in Italy for three years. During this period, he composed the opera \"Don Procopio\" and honed his skills in opera composition.\n\nDespite his early recognition of his talent, however, Bizet struggled to gain widespread acclaim during his lifetime, with many of his works being unpopular or unfinished. His symphony \"C major,\" his stage music \"The Lady of Arles,\" and his operas \"The Pearl Harvester\" and \"The Beauty of Perth,\" which were influenced by Gounod, Verdi, and Wagner, met with only limited success.\n\nIn 1872, the Opéra-Comique commissioned him to write an opera, \"Carmen,\" based on the novelist Prouxpel Mérimée's novella, which premiered in 1875 and was criticized for its controversial theme and unconventional heroine. Bizet died of a heart attack at the age of 36, only three months after the premiere, before the opera's true value was recognized.\n\nAfter his death, however, \"Carmen\" received worldwide acclaim, and Bizet was reevaluated as an important figure in 19th century opera.His music is characterized by rich melody, vivid orchestration, and dramatic power, and he successfully combines lightness and tragedy.
