His name is well known today for his \"Piano Exercises\" and piano books, but in the 19th century he was one of the most respected musicians of his time, and in the tradition of Beethoven, he interacted with all the Romantics, including Mendelssohn, Schumann, Chopin, and Liszt, all of whom were his seniors. In particular, he is known to have had a close family relationship with Mendelssohn, who was also the godfather of Moscheles' son, Felix. The flute works on this album are not only beautiful melodies, but also surprisingly skillful and lively. The piano part is carefully crafted to support the shining flute parts. The superb music woven by these two is too good to be dismissed as the work of a mere \"single classical composer. The musicians performing here are two of Japan's finest. Mr. Seo on flute is a master in both France and Japan, and Mr. Ueno on piano is a virtuoso who can handle anything from Liszt's superb technique to the subtlety of fortepiano playing. The music is truly hot, with sparks flying.
