Parlow showed talent at an early age, studying with Henry Holmes, a pupil of Spohr, in San Francisco, and making her recital debut at age 6. concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra, and gave a recital at the Bechstein Hall (now the Wigmore Hall). Impressed by Mischa Elman's performance, Perlow decided to study with Elman's teacher, Leopold Auer, and entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory at the age of 16.
