Charpentier is one of the composers who have experienced a particularly great restoration of honor in the world of French Baroque music, which has seen a remarkable revival since the 20th century. Although he was for a long time unable to participate in royal musical activities due to the "wall" of Lully, the royal music director, he was commissioned by a number of important institutions in Paris and left behind a surprisingly large number of works during his half-century of life. Unlike during the reign of Louis XIV, he has not been interrupted by Lully, and today he is regarded as one of the best composers of the French 17th century, but his reputation is still concentrated on religious works and dramatic music, and his numerous love songs and limericks have not had the opportunity to be taken up in a systematic way. This recording is a perfect opportunity to quench that thirst, and includes Claire Lefriatre, who has made a strong impression on the scene with her early masterpieces on ALPHA's Le Poème Armonique, Marc Moyon, who sings in every direction from the Middle Ages to Baroque music with a surprisingly wide range of voice, and the most famous French tenor singers of the moment, the "Monsieur Tenor" and the "Monsieur Tenor". The ensemble is accompanied by the bass ensemble, led by Stéphane Fugé, whose visit to Japan in 2022 was also very well received.The songs are sung with a naturalness that could only be achieved by virtuoso singers who spoke the same native language as Charpentier and were deeply familiar with 17th century French music, and they reveal in detail the various aspects of the composer's beauty.
