Description:

Laila Scheiek, a leader of the new generation of ancient music, new recording is a 17th century chaconne album! This is the debut recording of the elite ensemble "La Centifolia", which she herself convened! She studied at the Schola Cantorum Basel (SCB), Switzerland's prestigious music academy specializing in ancient music, with the great master of the ancient music world, Chiara Banchini, and since 2010 she has succeeded Banchini as Professor of Baroque Violin at SCB, while also teaching at Banchini's Ensemble 415 and La Risonanza, Baroque violinist Laila Scheiek (Leila Scheiek), who has made her presence felt in various concerts and recordings as a member of Concerto Cologne and other groups. After completing her three-volume collection of Leclerc's violin concertos with last year's release, Scheiek's new recording is a collection of chaconnes written in the 17th century! Chaconne (chaccona, chacona) is said to have been introduced from South America to Spain in the 16th century at the latest, and then quickly spread throughout Europe, becoming the basis of popular music. This album includes works from the famous collection of Schrank II of Dresden, by composers such as Bertali, Purcell, Schmelzer, Matteis, and Corelli. And the album closes with Pachelbel's "Canon and Gigue". Although the Canon is the most well-known of the two and is often performed alone, this album also includes Pachelbel's Gigue, which is usually ignored. La Centifolia, which makes its debut in 2019, is an ensemble founded by Scheiek, featuring Eva Saladin, who is also well known on the Glossa label, Sonoko Asabuki, Daniele Caminiti, Jonathan Pesek, and Johannes Keller, each of whom is a major player in the world of classical music. The ensemble is composed of such renowned musicians as Eva Saradin, Sonoko Asabuki, Daniele Caminiti, Jonathan Pesek, and Johannes Keller, all of whom are active in the world of classical music.
