Description:

The masterful recording of Verdi's "Otello" by Colin Davis and the LSO, an incandescent drama of astonishing energy, was awarded the Queen's Medal for Music 2009 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Verdi's Otello Colin Davis, who was awarded the 2009 Queen's Medal for Music by Her Majesty The Queen for his many years of outstanding contribution to the promotion of British music and his involvement in music education for the younger generation, will perform the first release of the 2010/11 season of LSO Live, Verdi's Otello, in a performance by the LSO. The first release of the 2010/11 season is Verdi's Otello. The first release of the 2010/11 season is Verdi's Otello, performed in concert by the LSO under the direction of the maestro on the occasion of the first public announcement of this glorious news. Verdi's masterpiece "Otello," his first new work in 16 years since his last, "Aida," is an opera in which Verdi's lifelong love for Shakespeare blossoms into the ultimate tragedy. In a nutshell, Boehte's script tells the story of the hero Otello, who falls prey to the schemes of Iago and, plunged into doubt and suspicion, takes the life of his supposedly beloved and innocent wife Desdemona, and then takes his own life. The film depicts jealousy, hypocrisy, cunning, hatred, suspicion, vileness, and almost any other negative human emotion one can think of that is irresistible and irresistible. Verdi, who has written almost exclusively tragedies, is a master when it comes to writing about these negative aspects and the anguished human psyche. The entire work is packed with music of intense emotion without wasting any time. Especially, "Otello and Iago's duet" at the end of the second act and "Otello's monologue" in the first scene of the third act, the orchestra's expressive power is unparalleled, as befits Verdi's last tragic opera.Perhaps for this reason, even conductors who do not usually take up Verdi, such as Carlos Kleiber, treat "Otello" as exceptional, and it is known not only as Verdi's masterpiece, but also as a work of high perfection that is often called "the greatest opera of all time. It is known as a work of high perfection. Otello" by Davis at Covent Garden is a work that Davis has been particular about, having performed "Otello" frequently during his tenure as music director of Covent Garden (1971-1987). According to records, Davis performed one Royal Opera House production with John Vickers in the title role in 1972, another with Vickers in 1980, and three complete performances of Otello in 1983 with Placido Domingo singing the title role.During this period, Davis also performed Otello with the Covent Garden Opera Orchestra in a gala concert format in 1977 with Domingo and Margaret Price as Desdemona. Davis made session recordings with the Covent Garden Opera Orchestra of both "The Masked Ball" in 1978 and 1979 and "Trovatore" in 1980, but unfortunately never had a chance to record "Otello".
