Most of his works were written for wind instruments, and there are 13 flute concertos extant. They fall into roughly three groups: the first four were composed before 1785, Nos. 5-9 around 1787-1794, and Nos. 10-13 in his later years. The mid-period works on this album show the transition of his style, with each piece adding experimental (and technical) elements and gradually refining the tune.
