This is a recital album by Serbian-French cellist Maya Bogdanovic. Her recital at Carnegie Hall was acclaimed as "an outstanding performance with beautiful tone and excellent interpretation," and on this album she carefully performs works by Rachmaninoff and Glière. Although she lived in the same era as Schoenberg and Ives, Glière's works never left the realm of late Romanticism, and these two works also have a slightly oriental atmosphere, but with a profound Russian romanticism. In addition to her musicality, which allows us to listen to Glière's rarely heard works at length, the highlight of the program is the heated dialogue between the instruments in Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonata, in which the piano and cello play an equal role.
