A brilliant Strauss picture scroll by Abbado. The spectacular Argerich burlesque, live from the 1992 Gillvester Concert of Abbado and the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition to the two great symphonic poems "Don Juan" and "Till" performed by the Berlin Philharmonic's iron-clad ensemble, "Bulleske" with Martha Argerich as soloist is the best part of the concert. Argerich and Abbado gave a magnificent performance, unleashing all the charm of Strauss's concertante works for young virtuosos. In the trio of "The Knight of Roses," the trio of singers Battle, Fleming, and Stade are all beautifully voiced, and the performance is a true masterpiece of beauty. The only R. Strauss recordings by Abbado are the three major symphonic poems for Deutsche Grammophon, so this is a valuable recording in that sense as well.
