Marina Golovine

Debussy fans rejoice. The masterpiece "The Sea" has been revived with the sound of the first performance. And a world premiere recording of a newly discovered masterpiece! The genius Lhoto has done it again. This time, he has taken on the challenge of recording Debussy's masterpiece "The Sea" with the hand-armed period instrument orchestra Les Siecle, recreating the sound of the premiere performance in October 1905 by the Concert Lamoureux Orchestra, conducted by Chevillard. The strings are gut strings, the brass is fine brass, and the woodwind and harp are made in France at that time, following the technique directly from the Paris Conservatory. The work is a work that is all about vibrato and tremolo, and because vibrato is suppressed as much as possible, the impression on the listener is quite different, almost like gagaku music. The work is full of great performances, but this is the disc that will leave you with a shocking impression. The world premiere recording of Debussy's early work, "Orchestral Suite No. 1," is even more remarkable. The work was written in 1882-84, when Debussy was a student at the Conservatoire de Paris at the age of 20-22, and was long thought to be lost, but a draft of the work was recently discovered and has become a topic of discussion. There are two versions, one for orchestra and the other for piano, the latter of which has already been recorded, but this is the first time the long-awaited orchestral version has been released. Since the orchestral score for the third piece "Dream" could not be found and other parts were incomplete, the contemporary French composer Philippe Manoury completed the work, and Lhoto and Les Siecle gave the world premiere in Paris on February 2, 2012. It is a large work that takes nearly 30 minutes to perform, but it is a charming work full of the naive lyricism and humanistic melodies characteristic of Debussy's early works, and the influence of Wagner, whom the young Debussy admired, can be heard in the sound of the orchestra, which is very interesting. It is as charming as the "Petite Suite" and "Spring" from the same period, and is sure to delight Debussy fans. King International
