His previous album featured a rather niche repertoire of Elgar and the Philharmonia Orchestra, featuring a rather niche repertoire of Elgar and Schnittke; this new release, however, takes on the technical challenges of Berlioz (1803–1869) and Paganini (1782–1840)—works that are quite intriguing from a technical standpoint. He is accompanied by the combination of Ashkenazy and the Helsinki Philharmonic. Their consistently composed playing beautifully complements this prodigy’s exquisite tone. Berlioz’s *Harold in Italy* was originally commissioned from Paganini and composed with the intention that Paganini himself would perform the viola part. However, after the first movement was completed, Paganini expressed dissatisfaction, so the subsequent movements were composed freely, resulting in a work where the viola plays a much less prominent role (In the final movement, in fact, there are almost no passages for the viola to play, except for the very beginning and the very end). In this recording, she performs the first movement as it was more virtuosically rearranged by Paganini. Be sure to listen to how the viola part soars freely during the Adagio section. Paganini’s work is a concerto-style sonata for the large five-string viola he commissioned himself; it is a dazzling piece featuring technical virtuosity displayed throughout.\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Ondine","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53595633778977,"sku":"761195118825","price":26.0,"currency_code":"SGD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/761195118825.jpg?v=1790482038","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-sg\/products\/761195118825","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
