Fontaines D.C.

Description:

A year after their scene-shattering debut album, Irish rock3k band Fontaines D.C. is back with their second album. A Hero's Death, a world-changing punk album, is out.Fontaines D.C.'s debut album, Dogrel, was released in 2019 to the highest acclaim of any new band that year, but on July 31, 2020, almost a year after the band's new alba, A Hero's Death, will be released on Partisan Records. The first single from the album is the title track, "A Hero's Death," featuring fellow countryman Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Wire, Peaky Blinders) in the video. The song is a list of rules for yourself, a superficially positive message, but like a mantra chanted over and over again, a different meaning emerges with each repetition. There is this balance between sincerity and insincerity, which is why there is often a transition from a major key to a minor key. This is the influence of many advertisements. The more you look at it, the more you can sense the repetitive nature of the surreal, scary, uplifting message. The title comes from a line in a play by Brendan Behan (Irish poet)," says singer Grian Chatten. To record A Hero's Death, Fontaines D.C. once again enlisted Dan Carey (Black Midi, Bat For Lashes) as producer. Working out of his London studio, the album draws on influences from Suicide, The Beach Boys, Leonard Cohen, Beach House, Broadcast, Lee Hazlewood, and more. To layer with "A Hero's Death," the artwork featured a statue of the mythical Irish warrior Koo Hoo Linn, erected in Dublin to commemorate the Easter Rising. The album defies expectations and challenges itself and its listeners. It functions as a conscious effort to sacrifice one identity to take over another.Fontaines D.C. is a post-punk band from Dublin, Ireland. The members are Carlos O'Connell (g), Conor Curley (g), Conor Deegan III (b), Grian Chatten (vo), and Tom Coll (dr). The band started when the five met at the Music College in Dublin. In April 2019, the band released their debut album "Dogrel". The album received critical acclaim from NME (5/5), The Guardian (5/5), and Pitchfork (8.0/10), debuted at #9 on the UK charts, #4 on the Irish charts, and sold out tours across the board. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and the album was nominated for the 2019 Mercury Prize. ...and is a member of the band's "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
