Some listeners may recognize the finale of Suite No. 5, HWV 430, as “The Cheerful Blacksmith,” but the other pieces are equally splendid. With its exquisitely refined counterpoint and innovative forms that break with tradition, while incorporating Italian-style, elegant musical ideas, this is a thoroughly rewarding album. This album features Movements 1 through 4 of the First Suite.
