The premiere of the abridged version, however, was a great success, and when the opera was performed again in 1873, it was revised into a four-act version that has been preserved for posterity, so that many of the important highlights that were originally intended to be heard in the opera have been relegated to oblivion. This recording, made possible under the supervision of the Palazetto Bru Zane (Center for Romantic French Music), is the world's first recording of a project that recovers all such omissions, includes the dialogue, and restores \"Life in Paris\" to its original form as Offenbach had originally envisioned it.The entire work, including the difference in scale, has been interpreted in a surprisingly fresh manner.
