After the death of the great master Lully and before the arrival of Rameau, the popular opera composer, Colin de Brahmin, was a popular opera composer at a time when French opera was changing under the influence of Italian music, with the activities of Campra and Demaret. The complete recording (CVS 141) of his celebrated music drama "La Festivière des Greces et des Régions" is still fresh in our memories. This time, the same Chateau de Versailles Spectacles label presents a pair of new recordings of two masterpieces in the field of one-act divertissements (musical dramas) favored by the French royal family. These two works, premiered in 1725 and 1728 at the same time as Vivaldi's Serenata in praise of the French royal family, "The Seine Feast" (1726), were composed to celebrate the wedding of Louis XV and the birth of his first son, respectively. The two operas are based on a mythological tale that allegorically describes the virtues of marriage and married life, comparing the successor of the Sun King Louis XIV to the sun god Apollo. The richly intonated development of the opera, with its occasional dance scenes featuring instrumental parts and rich choral singing, will keep the audience engaged. The Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, which is active in a wide range of orchestras, supports the distinguished lineup of singers who are well known in the French Baroque opera world. The orchestra will let you enjoy the two masterpieces of Divertissement between Charpentier's "The Art of Blooming" and Rameau's "Pygmalion" to the last detail. (Naxos Japan)
