This album contains four works spanning from 1935 to 1967, and shows the transition of Fleury's style from his prime to his maturity, and then to his later years. Five Orchestral Pieces for Celebration\" begins with a charming Elgar-like march. The \"Violin Concerto No. 3,\" written during World War II, is a technical work in the style of Fleury, a highly regarded violinist of great talent, with a lyrical atmosphere in the style of the late Romantic period. The \"Four Caprices\" from his last year is a modern serenade in the form of a concerto symphony. Andante sostenuto\", also written in the year of his death, was a work for the 70th birthday of his friend and conductor, Gottfried Kassowitz. Originally conceived as a suite in four movements, Fleury passed away without completing it, leaving only a draft of this movement. Kassowitz lived until 1969, but probably did not know of the work's existence. Paul Mann himself arranged it for orchestra for this recording.
