In fact, the four tracks on Side A, composed by Scott Walker, are now widely recognized as among his greatest masterpieces. They foreshadowed his reemergence as an avant-garde artist in the mid-1980s and influenced the work of artists such as Japan, Radiohead, and Pulp. The experimental single “The Electrician,” which makes heavy use of strings, is particularly noteworthy. Midge Ure has stated that this song served as the inspiration for Ultra Vox’s smash hit “Vienna.” Scott brought David Bowie’s *Heroes* (1977) into the studio as a creative reference, but Bowie was equally captivated by *Night Flights*, listening to the album while working on *The Roger* (1979) and covering the title track “Night Flights” on his own album *Black Tie White Noise* in 1993. Thirty years after its release, UNCUT magazine critic Chris Roberts called *Night Flights* “one of the most important works of its time,” praising the synergy of the three members’ distinct styles.\nThis is evident from the fact that, despite each member working independently, the album possesses a sense of cohesion—so much so that the band members themselves described it as three miniature solo works rather than a true group album.
