Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra, this is the first joint album with Merlin Broumans, who will serve as Artistic Director beginning in 2019. The elements that unite the album are \"Purified Night\" and \"Los Angeles. Schoenberg, Salonen, and Stravinsky all at one time or another made this city on the West Coast of the United States their base of activity and life. Esa-Pekka Salonen's \"Stockholm Diary,\" commissioned by the Stockholm Concert Hall Foundation for the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, makes full use of the colors and textures of the string orchestra. 2004. Lachen Verlernt (Forgotten Laughter), whose title is taken from the text of the \"Prayer for Pierrot\" from Schoenberg's \"Pierrot Possessed by the Moon,\" is a \"chaconne\" for violin solo written by Salonen for Choryan Lin.Sally Beamish Sally Beamish's \"Glanz (Glow)\" is a solo piece she wrote in 2016 for this instrument, having begun her career as a viola player. Taking its name from the words of Richard Demel's poem \"The Purified Night,\" on which the album's centerpiece \"Purified Night\" is based, the piece is a memorial to her \"good friend and colleague,\" Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. The program concluded with \"Concerto for Strings in D,\" one of Stravinsky's so-called neoclassical works, which recalls the energetic style and rhythms of the Baroque period. It is also called the \"Basel Concerto\" because of its compositional background.
