Price won the American Composition Award for his Symphony No. 1, and his premiere of the work was highly acclaimed. His Concert Overture No. 1, which features a Negro spiritual, was performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and broadcast on television to great acclaim. The Dance Suite is Price's own orchestration of \"Three Little Negro Dances\" for piano. The melody is full of song and cheerful rhythms can be heard throughout.
