This performance is based on a meticulous study of the Mercadante score and faithfully reflects the style of performance, allowing the audience to fully appreciate the flowing melody. The female lead roles of Didone and Aeneas, both played by women, give off a subversive charm that is characteristic of this period. The production is directed by the brilliant Jürgen Flimm, who will leave the Berlin State Opera in 2019.The original and unique direction of the production has remained unchanged despite the difference in opera houses, and this production uses elaborate devices to portray Didone's intense emotions.
