At the time, Mozart had just married Constanze, but his father, Leopold, did not approve of the marriage, so he wrote the work to \"prove that Constanze was a good soprano singer and to ask her father for permission to marry\" (CD2 contains the story of how the work was composed in German). (CD2 contains the story of how the work came to be in German). However, the work was unfinished, and only \"Kyrie,\" \"Gloria,\" \"Sanctus,\" and \"Benedictus\" survive in their complete form. The others are only partially or completely missing, and have been supplemented by various researches, performed, and recorded. This recording uses the supplemental edition made by musicologist Clemens Kemme in the spring of 2018, and offers an interesting musical experience that reflects the results of the latest research. London-born Howard Arman has been director of the Bavarian Radio Chorus since 2017, and is a conductor who has given a succession of excellent performances of Bach, Handel, and others. Here, the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music is at his command, and he delivers a flowing Mozart performance.
