Honk was formed in the early 70's in Laguna Beach, Southern California. The original six members were Tris Imboden (drums), Steve Wood (vocals, keyboards), Don Whaley (bass), Richard Stekol (lead guitar), Craig Buhler (sax), and Beth Fitchett (vocals). The group made its debut in 1972 with the soundtrack release of "Five Summer Stories. The success of that album led to the release of two original albums (both titled "Honk") before the band disbanded in 1975. The second album was released on 20th Century Fox in 1973 (shortly after that, Whaley left the band and was replaced by Will Brady). The third album was released on Epic in 1974. Co-produced by Henry Louie, who worked with Judy Sill, David Blue, and Joni Mitchell at Asylum. The urban arrangement featuring a light mellow saxophone is somewhere between the West Coast rock sound of the Eagles and the city pop/AOR sound of Boz Scaggs in the late 70s.In 1977, after the breakup, Imboden joined the Kenny Loggins Band (until 1989), and from 1990 to the present, he is still a member of Chicago. Stekol also formed the Funky Kings with Jack Tempchin and Jules Shear. Since then, he has been active in providing songs (Kenny Loggins, Kim Carnes, Michael Nesmith, Ian Matthews, etc.) and sessions for various artists.
