Reflecting on how much they’ve grown, the three members have returned to their roots as a family and released their fourth album, *ALaSala*, created entirely by the band alone.
*ALaSala* centers on the theme of the band returning to the place where they record. Recorded at engineer Steve Christensen’s warehouse (Terminal C), the album has a living-room-like feel. Even if they couldn’t emotionally return to exactly where they started, the band felt it was truly necessary to come home after the pandemic and their collaborative album. The theme of family was also present. Since everything—from live shows to promotions—had become so massive, they felt it was the right thing to do to return to being a family of three and embrace an emotional recording process. “ALaSala” is the title of a track from a previous dub album, but it was also what Laura would always shout when gathering people in the living room. It’s a symbol of unity. This is the first time the band has worked on a project together like this since 2019. Furthermore, this is their first album without Will van Horn (pedal steel) and the first in Khruangbin’s history to feature no guest artists. Just like a pendulum, sooner or later, it had to swing back the other way. Musically and thematically, we tried to express the warmth of being in a living room through sound. Also, while the song titles are all very specific, they’re open to the listener’s interpretation. Visually, the window was the focal point of the living room. It’s a space where you can lose yourself in daydreams, and it serves as a visual thread throughout the entire album (e.g., the cover art).

Tracklisting:

.Fifteen Fifty-Three
.May Ninth
.Ada Jean
.Farolim de Felgueiras
.Pon Pon
.Todavia Viva
.Juegos y Nubes
.Hold Me Up (Thank You)
.Caja de la Sala
.Three From Two
.A Love International
.Les Petit Gris
.May Ninth (2008 Demo)(Bonus Track)
