Richard Strauss is one of the most special composers for the Philharmonia. The relationship did not last long, as Strauss passed away in 1949, only four years after the founding of the Philharmonia, but the Philharmonia welcomed him as conductor in 1947 and performed with him at the Royal Albert Hall.
