Eick, an improviser\/composer and heavily influenced by American jazz, composed in the same spirit, reintegrating the textures and colors of Norwegian folk music with American jazz.\n\nEick's partner is Gjermund Larsen, a fine violinist with roots in the Norwegian folk tradition, and he is joined by Jon Balke's lyrical piano playing, backed by Helge Norbakken's percussion and Mats Eilertsen's bass. The music is driven by the lyrical piano of Jon Balke.\n\nThe genesis of this album was inspired by Eick's feeling of \"finally being home\" when he arrived in the Midwest after a long and grueling tour of the United States, where he had become homesick.I now know why our forefathers wanted to build ranches in the Midwest.
