This time, however, the quartet is taking a sharp turn toward classical music. Haydn's Op. 54 is one of the string quartets composed during the string quartet boom that followed his Op. 33 collection (1781), which greatly inspired his peers in Vienna and elsewhere, and at a time when the composer was building an enormous reputation in Paris, London, and other major cities.
