When composing, Fürstenthal said, \"I always go back to Vienna,\" and he wrote many works until his death at the age of 96. The choral work on this album, \"Hymn to the Sun by St. Francis of Assisi,\" is a large scale work for solo voice, chorus, piano, and string quartet of unknown date, and although it was never performed during his lifetime, it has beautiful harmonies in the late Romantic tradition. The 2009 sonata, for four hands, is an elaborate work that incorporates a variety of elements in a concise form.
