Live December 2008 Meta & the Bayerische Staatsorchester's Mahler 5th The Bavarian National Orchestra, a hand-picked orchestra of which Meta, a maestro born in 1936, was the music director from 1998 to 2006 and currently holds the post of honorary conductor. FARAO, which has released recordings by this duo, including Wagner's "Die Walküre" (B.108040), has released a new album of Mahler's Fifth Symphony. This is a live performance from December 2008, when the maestro returned to his old home with a program of his heart's content. Metta's session recordings of Mahler's Fifth Symphony with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1976 and with the New York Philharmonic in 1989 are strongly remembered as characteristic of his time as music director, but this live recording with the Bayerisches Staatsorchester is the first recording of Mahler's Fifth Symphony made with the orchestra in 2004. This live recording with the Bavarian National Orchestra is highly anticipated, as the live performance of the Third Symphony (S.108047) in 2004 was also very moving.The SACD hybrid version is an excellent recording that is sure to satisfy audiophiles. ［Comment courtesy of King International.
