Christian Thielemann is now one of the most important conductors of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and their ongoing big project \"Bruckner: Complete Symphonies\" has been attracting a great deal of attention. The third recording is the famous Symphony No. 4, which has been popularly titled \"Romantic\" and is Bruckner's first symphony in major. It is the first symphony Bruckner wrote in the major key, and there are many passages that leave a strong impression, such as the beginning of the first movement, which begins with a romantic blowing of horns and reminds one of the dawn, and the third movement, which recalls the horns of a hunter. Thielemann uses the second draft of the Robert Haas edition (the old complete works edition published in 1936, in which the oboe plays the theme of the third movement trio), which still has many fans because of its strong support by 20th century conductors such as Bruno Walter and Takashi Asahina. The use of the Novak edition is common, and a new complete works edition score revised by Korstvedt was published in 2018, so it is rare to hear a new recording using Haas's old complete works edition, but that is where Thielemann's attention to detail can be felt. This is also the first recording by the Vienna Philharmonic in 31 years, since the 1990 DG recording conducted by Abbado (using the new Novak-edition of the complete works). The opposing arrangement of the first and second violins on the left and right has a tremendous effect in highlighting the musical structure of Bruckner's works. The slow tempo of the entire work, at 69 minutes, allows the scale of the work to be portrayed in a grand manner. This is the third time Thielemann's \"Romantic\" has been filmed since 2008 with the Munich Philharmonic and 2015 with the Staatskapelle Dresden (the 2012 live performance with the Berlin Philharmonic is also available on Digital Concert Hall), but this latest recording with the Vienna Philharmonic is surely the definitive recording. This latest recording with the Vienna Philharmonic is sure to be the definitive recording. The series has been highly acclaimed in various newspapers and magazines, with Symphony No. 8 being voted the No. 3 overall \"Readers' Choice\" by \"Record Geijutsu\" magazine, and this No. 4 is literally a must-hear release on the 125th anniversary of Bruckner's death. This new \"romantic\" recording raises expectations for the complete works, which have already been recorded in No. 1 (Vienna version), No. 2, No. 5, D minor (No. 0), and F minor (No. 00).
