The Ensemble Barocco di Napoli was founded in 2010 by two recorder players, Tommaso Rossi and Raffaele di Donna. As part of the activities of the Alessandro Scarlatti Society of Naples, the ensemble studies and performs music with a particular focus on the Neapolitan school of music. The Apcordis Ensemble, formed in 2011 by its leader Andrea Buccarella and young period instrumentalists and vocal members, focuses on the discovery, study, and revival of unknown music of the Italian 17th and 18th centuries. The activities of these two ensembles are in the same direction, and their joint recording here leads to new discoveries. In the 18th century Naples was the capital of the Kingdom of Naples, the third largest city in Europe after Paris and London.It was a city at the forefront of music, so much so that Charles de Bross stated in 1739 that \"Naples is the musical capital of the world,\" and opera houses were built and opened one after another. As a result, innovative music developed as new trends in emotional expression were required. In addition, most of the castrato of the time were trained in Naples, and the music of Naples influenced the music of Europe. Among such instrumental music, wind works required the same vocal and breathing techniques as vocal music, and were more important than the performance and fingering of the instruments. The performances on this album are the result of research into these various works, and the dialogues between the woodwinds and the ensemble are interesting and enjoyable.
