Her highly improvisational interpretations, born from repeated study of the scores and countless performances to capture the composers' intentions, result in stylish music. Her exciting playing is astonishing.\n\nAmong the sonatas included on this album, only one was originally written for the vertical flute (recorder). The rest are works for violin or the transverse flute. While historical printed sources clearly indicate the choice of solo instrument was flexible, Koudelková chose to perform Handel and Corelli's works on the recorder, an instrument that was immensely popular at the time.This recording features the standard alto recorder, and soprano recorder, but also features instrument changes tailored to the works. These include the Voice flute in D (a tenor recorder in D), an instrument with a dark timbre popular in England at the time, and the Sixth flute in D (a D-tube flute pitched a fifth higher than the standard F-tube alto), which was also used in the interlude music of Handel's operas.
