Many of the recordings are being released on CD for the first time, including three previously unreleased tracks. Ania Dorfman was born on July 9, 1899 in Odessa, Ukraine, South Russia. She showed early talent for the piano, making her debut at the age of 11. At the same time, she performed with Heifetz, a child prodigy from the same region. He then studied at the Conservatoire de Paris under Isidore Philippe, who was known as a great teacher. After graduation, he returned to Russia, but avoided the turmoil of the revolution and returned to Europe. From 1920, he was based in London for about 15 years, where he actively performed and collaborated with famous conductors such as Mengelberg, Beecham, and Henry Wood.After a successful New York debut in 1936, Dorfman moved to the U.S. and performed the \"Choral Fantasy\" on the last day of the historic Beethoven Cycle with Toscanini and the NBC Symphony Orchestra in 1939 (the live recording is included in DISC 1 of this box) to rave reviews. In the 1950s, he became a professor of piano at the Juilliard School, where he taught marching until his retirement in 1983. He died in New York City on April 21, 1984.
