Description:

All six CDs are firsts! A surprise gift from one of Germany's most traditional Mozart festivals, featuring selected performances from the 1950s through 2020. Founded in 1921 by conductor Hermann Zircher, the Würzburg Mozart Festival has a history that rivals that of the Salzburg Festival. The festival, which takes place over a four-week period between May and July each year, attracts orchestras and musicians from all over Germany and Austria, and is known for its more than 50 concerts and large audiences. The concert will be held in the Residenz (Bishop's Palace), which was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1981 and is one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe, representing the Baroque architectural style designed by Balthasar Neumann in the 18th century. The Imperial Room in the building will be the venue for the concert. The Imperial Room is also known for its fresco ceiling painted by the master of the Venetian school, Tiepolo.CD1 and CD2 feature symphonic and orchestral works, CD3 and CD4 feature concertos, CD5 features vocal works, and CD6 focuses on chamber and solo works. CD1 and CD2 feature symphonic and orchestral works, CD3 and CD4 feature concertos, CD5 features vocal works, and CD6 focuses on chamber music and solo pieces. Each disc contains recordings from various periods, allowing the listener to experience the changes in performance style in a single album. CD1 and CD2 feature Mozart symphonies conducted by Kuijken and orchestral works conducted by Oramo, and Maazel's Jupiter, the first time since the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra recorded it in 1966. This is a valuable mature performance, the first since the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1966. From Goebel and Antonini, an exciting old music style is to be expected. On CDs 3 and 4, the "Turkish Style" by Chumachenko, a teacher of Julia Fischer and Batiashvili who specialized in Mozart but had never been recorded, is a highlight, and the meeting of Brendel and Kassadosh with Kubelík is intriguing and unexpectedly very little recorded. Fischer and Marzi's performances are also worth listening to, and CD5 offers a good selection of sopranos. In addition to the well-known Zehfried, Cato, Amerink, and Popp of yesteryear and the well-known recordings of Amerink and Popp, CD5 includes the singing of Kark, Kanjemi, and Stoyanova, all of whom have been active in recent years. The "Exultate..." by Damrau is especially noteworthy! CD6 contains many new recordings and gives us a glimpse of the "now" of the German musical world. Kit Armstrong is an American-born talent highly acclaimed by Brendel. The Keckert Quartet, which closes this set, is known for its recordings of Beethoven, Haydn, and Schubert for DG, but its Mozart recordings are extremely rare. Naxos Japan
