The first digital recording by Sprafone. First SACD release with ORT mastering! The latest mastering brings back to life a masterpiece recording and performance! This is a representative performance by Smetacek, a well-known conductor who recorded in the early days of digital recording and has been listened to until today. This masterpiece was selected as a special prize winner by Record Geijutsu (Recorded Arts), recommended by the Asahi Viewing Room, and received the Art Festival Excellence Award. This is the first SACD release in high-resolution format using ORT mastering technology originally developed by Nippon Columbia. The CD layer also uses this mastered sound source. Václav Smetacek (1906-86) was a popular conductor in Japan who visited Japan twice and greatly impressed audiences with his masterful performances of \"New World\" and other works. Although there are not many recordings of Smetacek, there has been a great deal of interest in the recordings that remain, including live recordings. Among them, \"My Homeland\" with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra is exceptional.Nippon Columbia began digital recording in 1972, and by the end of the 1970s had begun recording with Sprafone and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Until then, digital recording had been done using Nippon Columbia's staff and equipment, but Sprafone also had its own digital recording equipment, and this was the label's first recording on its own. However, the label did not have the know-how for editing, and the actual editing was done by Nippon Columbia. In any case, this memorable performance, the first digital recording on the Sprafon label, was highly acclaimed in Japan, winning the Art Festival Excellence Award. There are many masterpieces of \"My Homeland\" with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, but Smetacek's performance is different from all of them. At first hearing, the performance seems to proceed without hesitation, with emotionally restrained expression, but it is a strong-willed performance that contains a strong sense of commitment. The careful control of every detail is impressive, and the overall musicality shows that the members of the Czech Philharmonic trust this performance. It is rare to hear \"Our Fatherland\" so rich in content, and while it is unclear how this recording came to be, it is certainly a historic addition to a very special piece of music under Sprafone's unerring insight. One wonders how Smetacek would have felt had he heard Kubelík's homecoming show in 1990, when he died at the age of 79 without seeing the velvet revolution that followed.
