She has dual origins in Hungary and the United States, and is one of the students of the Barenboim-Said Academy's master class established in 1999. He won the first prize at the International Virtuoso Competition in New York, is highly skilled, and actively performs contemporary works. 2021-23 he studied with András Schiff at the Kronberg Academy, and since October 2024 he has also been Schiff's assistant. In 2023, he was a substitute for Barenboim in a performance that Barenboim cancelled, and has steadily expanded his activities.

Ellis Island, located near the Statue of Liberty, was the site of the United States Immigration Service for about 60 years from the late 19th century, and European immigrants always entered the United States through this island. The album "Ellis Island" is the story of Julia Hamos, a pianist with dual origins in the United States and Hungary. She leads us on a look at Bartok and Kurtág's Hungary, a dialogue with the memories of our Transylvanian ancestors, and to New York City, the first home for Hamos.

In Hamos' own words (excerpted from the liner notes) - "I play to speak, and I listen to others to hear their intentions. The piano is unique because it requires a certain amount of imagination as to what is being said. So, for better or worse, we must know ourselves and match our minds and bodies! Come to think of it, Schiff was once told by Kurtág: "The closer your hands are to the keys when you play, the closer you are to yourself (and thus to the music)." Something like that. Exactly what I am thinking!

The young pianist Julia Hamos tries to draw out and echo the voices and words of herself, the composer, or the people of that time, as she plays playfully with the piano. This is a piece where you can feel the music being born right here and now.

NAIVE

Tracklisting:

1.Jatekok (Games)~Volume I. No. 74.
