The Marble Index\" and \"Desertshore\" were co-produced by John Cale, a former bandmate of Velvet Underground, and had a profound influence on the goth rock movement.Iconic American rock journalist Lester Bangs wrote of \"The Marble Index\" that it is \"an avant-garde classic and a masterpiece of serious music in the second half of the 20th century,\" and The New Yorker magazine recently hailed both albums as \"a gritty miracle of will and a solemn miracle of invention.
